Tea has been known in Vietnam for 3,000 years, but it is only in the last 50 years that it has been systematically cultivated and processed, and only in the last 10 years that it has begun to come to prominence in the world markets.
This new industry, still in its infancy, promises great things for Vietnam and the world’s tea connoisseurs alike.
Vietnam Jasmine tea uses quality green tea scented with jasmine flowers. After being harvested during the day, the jasmine flowers bloom with full fragrance overnight and are layered over the tealeaves during the scenting process, being periodically turned to absorb the scent. For every kg of Vietnam Jasmine tea, one kg of jasmine flowers is needed.
Upon brewing, this delightful green tea, consisting of well-made, broken leaves, produces a light yellow liquor with a strong jasmine flavour.
Put one tsp per person into a warmed pot or Mug Infuser and pour on boiling water that has been allowed to cool for one minute. Brew for no more than 2 mins and strain into cups. Best drunk without milk or sugar. Several infusions can be produced from the same leaves.
