The Indian Tea Association (ITA) is set to try to boost flagging tea exports with an expo bringing together producers and exporters under one roof for the first time.

It will be held in Dubai at the end of this month (June) to find a way of generating more revenue at a time when there is an international tea shortage of nearly 55 million kg.

The ITA told the Economic Times that it will take place on June 27 and 28 with around 35 representatives from Pakistan, Egypt,

Russia, UAE, Iran, Iraq and Kazakhstan who will have face-to-face time with the producers.

There will also be some 35 tea producers from leading tea companies from Assam, North Bengal and South India.

The Tea Board said that India’s tea exports fell 24% in the first three months of 2009 as a domestic output shortfall, firm internal demand and the global economic slowdown weighed on exports.
