Tea at the Beijing Olympics

Tea was served in the Olympic Village

We hope you enjoyed the Beijing Olympics as much as we did and we were so happy to see that tea played such a vital role in the Olympic Village!

Tea was chosen by the Olympic committee to represent and promote Chinese culture as one of its three core elements, along with silk and porcelain.

Thousands of teas were whittled down to just 12, including 2 from Taiwan, to be displayed and served in the Olympic village.

Inside the Olympic village athletes could relax in the traditional tea rooms, fully equipped with acupuncture and massage salons, and tea themed classical dances were performed three times per day for their viewing pleasure.

Chinese Medicine practitioners also developed a tea designed to help cool visitors and athletes that struggled with the heat and humidity in Beijing.

So if tea is good enough for Britain’s gold medallists why not take a minute to enjoy a cup and see what you can achieve!
