Ceylon Hapugolla Red
We are pleased to be the only UK supplier of this extremely rare and unique tea from Uva, Sri Lanka.
The raw material for the manufacture of red tea is the fresh tender green leaves. The initial process of manufacture is similar to the process involved for making Green Tea, the purpose being to deactivate the natural enzymes. Deactivated Tea leaves are then subjected to cooling and rolling, followed by an intensive oxidising process and a microwave process, which lasts 4-5 days. The treated tea is then dried, graded and packed.
The dry leaf has just a hint of red to it, with a fresh, sweet scent. But the brewed tea is an extraordinary, vivid red with a floral aroma. The flavour is bright and crisp with a distinct hint of raspberries.
To brew, place one tsp per person into a warmed pot or Mug Infuser and add fresh boiling water. Brew for no more than 3 minutes then strain into cups. Serve without milk.
