Assam teas come from the fertile flood-plains of the Brahmaputra River in East India. They are characterised by strength, briskness, and a rich malty flavour, that in the best examples is full-bodied but at the same time smooth and bright, without any harshness.
The Itakhooli estate (Itakhooli means “brick storehouse”) is in the far NE of the Assam Valley. It covers some 380 ha, produces 1000 tonnes annually and is one of 18 gardens in Assam owned by Williamson Tea.
Itakhooli is a strong, brisk, tippy tea, with a good malty flavour. It is full-bodied enough to be delicious with milk, and with enough brightness and aroma to savour on its own or with a slice of lemon. The 2nd Flush (harvest) is regarded as the best quality, with a tremendous balance of flavour and restrained strength.
To brew, use one heaped tsp per person in a warmed pot or Mug Infuser and add freshly drawn boiling water. Brew for 4 mins. Itakhooli is delicious with or without milk and sugar – we urge you to try both.
